The Sharing component is in the Social bin.  What it does is described here:  http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu/reference/components/social.html#Sharing  

To send text to gmail, you might do this  

The code in the button is how you send text.  You can send it to any app on the screen that appears that accepts text.  The component has to other block possibilities for sending a file or sending a file along with text.  See the video on how to use them.
