Ai companion over wifi doesn't seem to respond very well with device

I am having some troubles with the AI companion updating with my device on my home network. Device switches pages and everything fine if controlled from computer, but when using device to test buttons and what not it doesn't seem to work. Yet if I build the app and open it on the device works no problem. Any solutions or is this just a bug?

You are talking about App Inventor 'live development' using the device?    What you may be experiencing it the lag that exists when using Companion to help render your Android screen (or the emulator screen).   The more graphics and objects on a screen, the longer it takes for AI and Companion to render them on your device in development mode.  What you experience is "normal" and is faster or slower depending on your PC and Android hardware.

You do NOT have to be connected to program App Inventor 2.    You do NOT have to Connect > AI Companion    or  Emulator   or USB while developing.  Many of the AI developers, myself included, frequently do not connect.  You rely on what you see on the Designer screen for graphics and the Blocks are the same.  Working like this allows developers to significantly speed up the development process.   Make sure you occasionally connect to see how your app is running and remember to save aia files (after you are certain things are run OK) and or   do a Projects >Save project as   or Checkpoint (to save another copy of your project to the MIT Google servers).

And yes, most AI2 apps run MUCH better after they are compiled.  This is true with virtually all programming languages.

Smile; your system is probably normal.

Merry Christmas,
